The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is the location for the open-wheel Indianapolis 500 Mile Race, commonly referred to as the Indy 500. The race is the largest single-day sporting event in the world and is held on Memorial Day weekend. The track was constructed in 1909 with more than 3 million bricks and acquired the nickname 'Brickyard'. It is now paved and also includes a Formula One road course.
