New York City

New York City

New York City, also known as the Big Apple, is a thriving metropolis of style and excitement. It is recognized as the central hub for many global influences, including business, communications, shopping and dining. The city possesses one of the best theatre districts, along Broadway, as well as one of the most significant cultural centers housing over 120 museums, with the Metropolitan Museum of Art topping the list.

Boasting over 8 million residents with another 10 million residing in its metropolitan area, New York City is one of the world's most populated areas. The 322 square mile area consists of five boroughs: the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island.

Manhattan is the most visited area, attracting nearly 40 million visitors each year. Manhattan is famous for its vast array of attractions, from Time's Square to Central Park. Lower Manhattan is the birthplace of the city, established by the Dutch as the first European settlement. This historical site is now the perfect location to view the Statue of Liberty, which stands on Liberty Island in the mouth of the Hudson River.

Although Manhattan is the most appealing, the other boroughs offer great attractions. Fantastic off-beat restaurants and vintage shops are spotted all over the city; Coney Island and Yankee Stadium are also just outside Manhattan.
