Franklin Mountains State Park
The Franklin Mountains State Park is the largest urban park in the nation, covering about 37 square miles. In the 1970’s developers began moving into the mountains for home construction. In 1979, House Bill 867 was passed to acquire the mountains as a state park. The park overlooks the Rio Grande and offer rock climbing, hiking, biking and horseback riding.
