Virginia Beach
Virginia Beach is an independent city of the Commonwealth of Virginia and located on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay. It is recognized as ‘America’s first region’, with establishment of Jamestown by English settlers in 1607.
The city is home to many historic landmarks. The First Landing State Park said to be the very first site of the English settlers in 1607. The park features evidence of early settlers, as well as activities like camping and hiking. Another notable attraction is the Cape Henry Lighthouse. It was the first lighthouse authorized by the U.S. government and stands on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay. Today, a newer lighthouse is in operation with the older lighthouse open to the public.
Virginia Beach is best known as a vacation destination for its miles of beaches and boardwalk. It is recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records as having the longest pleasure beach in the world. Its three mile boardwalk features numerous shops, restaurants and hotels.
